Chapter 2 - part 1 || Back to top, baby.

Chapter 2
Crush (part1)

“Emily!” I shrieked as she took me into her arms. Blake raised his eyebrow and muttered something under his breath. “Oh my gosh, Layla! I’ve missed you so much!” We were still hugging each other, now jumping outside my house. “So did I. So sorry that I didn’t go to the airport yesterday.” I pulled away, giving her an apologetic look as she ruffled my light brown hair. “It’s alright, and Paris was great!” She sounded so cheerful as we walked towards Blake’s Volkswagen. “You wouldn’t know what happened last Sunday.” I smiled smugly as we got into the car. It still slightly reeked of Vodka. “How exciting could it get?” She asked warily. Blake started the engine and threw the car into reverse. “I went to a pub, and drank and danced with Jayden!” I was practically screaming now. “Cut it out, Layla.” Blake barked. Emily dropped her jaw and her eyes grew wide with jealousy. “Oh my gosh! Jayden Laurent? Jayden? Jayden?” She held my wrists tightly and was bobbing up and down with excitement. Well, Emily did have a crush on Jayden. “Yeah. Jayden Laurent.” I tried to sound cool. “I am so envious of you, Layla!” She clutched her palms to her heart. I just smiled. “Next time, you’ve got to bring me along.” She broke into a wide grin. Then, Blake turned to look at us as he drove into the school car park. “She’s got grounded for one month cause of that damn incident.” Blake said sourly. “Yeah. Can’t go over your house today.” The tinge of disappointment and regret lingered in my voice as I stared out of the window blankly. Spring break was finally over. School looked pretty the same to me, I thought as we flashed past the cars and students chattering in crowds. “Damn. That’s simply too sad.” She slapped her knee as we got of the white Beetle. I nodded as we made our way to the school building. Then, I caught a glance of Jayden. He was surrounded by several girls, as usual. When I walked past, he didn’t even notice. My light beige oversized sweatshirt and jeans were totally different from the vintage white sundress, I thought sourly.

During lunch, in the cafeteria, it was all the same. Abigail and Davidson headed the table; obviously the highest of the clique. Then, there was Kim, Pearl, Zac, and Ethan. Everyone there were part of the coolest clique in the school. And sitting next to Pearl was someone vaguely familiar. I ransacked my memory for the dark curtain of brown hair, the glimmering blue eyes when she chuckled and the flawless figure. It was Ashley. Why in the world was she here? “What’s wrong, Layla?” Emily caught me staring at the clique’s table. I could detect the tinge of sarcasm in her voice. “Is that a new girl?” Emily followed my stare on Ashley. “Yeah. She was in my Spanish. I think her name is Ashley.” Emily noted as she grabbed a pizza from the counter. “Emily, she was the same Ashley at the bar!” I threw my hands up in the air. “Oh my gosh. Go talk to her, then.” Emily nearly shoved me out of queue. “There’s no way am I going to dump my best friend for the indecent flirt.” Did I really mean that? Was Emily way better than Ashley? It’d better be. I took a bottle of lemonade from the fridge and paid for it. Emily smiled sweetly. Then, she suddenly went rigid. “Freak! It’s Jayden Laurent!” I could hear the tickling rush of air as she whispered excitedly into my ear. “Cut the crap, Emily.” I commanded her when she hid her face in my curtain of hair as we sauntered to the table where we usually sat, now with the gorgeous Jayden smiling at us. Surprisingly, he didn’t join his clique’s table today. I raised my eyebrow. He shot a quizzical look back. “Cut the wordless communication!” Emily whispered again as she tugged at my wrist. “Hey ladies, mind if I join you for lunch?” Jayden asked in a honey-sweet voice. Emily’s eyes widened when he mentioned ‘ladies’ and she darted a quick look behind her. “No problem,” I answered hastily and demanded dreamy Emily to take a seat.

“I’m going to faint, Layla.” Emily whispered teasingly. “Cut it out!” I hissed when her fingernails made marks on my arm. Reluctantly, she let go and took a large bite of her mozzarella pizza. I opened the bottle of lemonade and sipped it. Jayden nibbled on his double chocolate muffin. It was silent for the next few minutes. “Talk to him, you idiot.” Emily hissed furiously into my ear. I sighed. “So what’s the occasion? Why aren’t you sitting with your clique?” There was a tinge of unplanned sourness in my voice. “I can’t stand them. That’s why I’m hanging out with your brother and Nicholas.” He admitted with a hint of disappointment in his voice. “You don’t know how lucky you are. The clique, you know.” I muttered as I rolled my eyes. “Pardon?” “People die to join the clique and now you’re alienating from them…” Disapproval was distinct in my acid voice. “You don’t know anything. Let’s leave it to that.” He sealed the topic. That made me even more pissed off with him. “I don’t know what his bloody problem is.” I muttered fiercely into Emily’s ears. “There’s nothing wrong with him.” She snapped, blushing when Jayden shot her a quizzical look. I sighed. In Emily’s world, a cute hot guy like Jayden was flawless. “So what’s your next class?” Jayden asked, trying to ease my irritation. “Microbiology and Gym,” Ugh. I groaned internally. “Didn’t know why I picked the bloody science.” I rattled off. “So, I’ll be sharing the same classes as you!” He smiled warmly. His smile was irresistible. I gave one of my most alluring smiles even though I was cursing that I had class with him. Then, we debated about the bestselling books, music and the damn microbiology holiday assignment. To my surprise, he wasn’t anything like the clique. Most of the bitches and bastards were the filthy rich kids who don’t give a damn about studying. Only Pearl bothers; that’s why she’s some president of some freak science club. And Jayden was smart, I must admit. I liked him for that one. And for his smiles. And kisses.

Chapter 1 - part 2 || Back to top, baby.

Chapter 1
Misbehaving (part2)

“Come on, watch me. It’s the easiest way to get a free drink.” She led me around the dance floor and to the bar. There were many guys sitting there, wallowing in liquor. There were also some scandalous girls twirling their hair, letting the guys lick their throats and chests. Ew. That was sick. I’d hope Ashley would not make me do that. She let go of my hand, and sashayed to the bar, as though it was some red carpet. “Hey. Two blue Martini, please?” Her lashes flittered quickly as she set herself between two men who were ogling at her perfect figure. “Hey pretty.” One of them tried his luck. Then, the bartender came with two classy glasses of blue liquid and a wedge lemon hung on the rim. Immediately, two cards slammed down onto the counter. They looked as though they were playing Visa and American Express snap. “I couldn’t…” Ashley tried to sound innocent as she reached out for a fifty dollar bill. “Yes, you can.” The one with the messy blond hair handed his Visa to the bartender. Ashley smiled and planted a kiss on him and pranced back, handing out the glass to me. “Thanks and wow, you were good.” I complimented as I swirled my pinkie in the Martini. She gulped the drink down, letting the ice cubes tinkle against the glass. I sipped slowly, letting the alcohol burn my throat. “I want to drink some more. So, it’s your turn.” She placed our glasses, including my unfinished one onto an empty table and shoved me forward. I shot her a shocked look. “Just go.” She pushed me further. I strolled casually towards the bar, my heart pounding at an amazing speed. How in the world was I planning to do this? I had no freaking experience with flirting. Flirting.

Following Ashley, I planted myself in beside a crowd of good-looking guys. Hmm… I loved the scent of the guy with dark brown hair, his blue eyes glowed with admiration when he caught me ordering a drink. “Vanilla vodka for two please.” My voice came out smooth and pleasing. The guy leaned closer and I could smell that perfume. So sweet and yet there was a tinge of saltiness and wine in it. “Hey there. You look pretty. Mind if I treat you?” I chewed on my lip when he spoke with a little but of French accent. Then, I caught Ashley gesturing at me; she was waving her arms and nodding furiously. What was she trying to say? Then, the same bartender placed the translucent drinks on the counter and winked at me. I tried to put on my best smile. “Here,” He handed out an American Express platinum card. Then I realized I hadn’t answered his question. Oh well. “Thanks for the treat.” I brushed my fingertips down from his temples to his jaw. He flinched but caught my hand as I pulled it back. “Hope to see you again, pretty.” He kissed my long fingers before I went back to Ashley. “You were great!” Ashley grinned as I handed her the glass. I rolled my eyes. Didn’t she notice I flirted like an idiot, compared to her? This time I finished the entire vanilla vodka in two mouthfuls, just like Ashley. The distinct vanilla scent was sweet but the fiery vodka rolled down my throat. Again, she pushed away the glasses and walked towards the bar to try her luck again. After sipping some cherry brandy, it was my turn. The game went on and on until my head spun and there was a ringing in my ear. I was definitely drunk. Ashley seemed to be no better, her face all flustered, her movements all jerky as we made our way back to the booth. Blake was there, his arms wrapped around Audrey and laughing his head off. Obviously, he was drunk too. We stayed there for a while more, playing drinking games until it was some time past twelve. “Bloody hell.” Blake cursed as he led me out of the pub. I didn’t even have a chance to say goodbye to Ashley.

We got the hell from Sam when we reached home at one. “Blake!” His voice thundered. “How could you set such a bad example by bringing Layla to a pub! A freaking damn pub! And only to come back so late!” His eyes stared right into the clock. “But Dad-” Blake was cut off by his reprimand. “And you,” He growled, shaking his finger at me. “You’d actually let your brother bring you to such indecent places…” He droned on and on. In the end, I went to bed in the white dress; too tired to change out, at two plus.

I woke up to the bright sunlight from the windows. I felt disorientated. My head was spinning and my eyes were blurry. I groaned as I made my way to the bathroom and splashed cold water on my face. I shuddered a little but at least it woke me up. Looking into the mirror, I traced my features. The mascara was all smudged, the eye shadow had faded but my face was still blushing. I rubbed all the make-up off and examined myself closely. I wasn’t one bit beautiful without all the makeup. My lightly tanned skin looked dull, my lashes all curling in every single direction and dark eye rings under my puffy eyes. I sighed and stepped into the bathtub. The warm water massaged my stiff and sore muscles. It felt so good. After that, I changed into my normal wear – a dark blue tee and skinny jeans. I dumped my sundress into the damn washer before skipping down for breakfast. So called breakfast. It was already twelve, I noticed when I stared into the Katherine’s gleaming pink watch. “Sickening girl.” I muttered under my breath as I walked into the kitchen. “What?” Katherine looked up from the television. “You told on us.” I accused as I whipped out some cornflakes from the cupboard. “You weren’t back by eleven. Dad got suspicious.” “And you told on us!” It was the same cold, rude voice. “I had to tell the truth…” She retorted. “Blake didn’t pay you twenty bucks for telling the truth!” I slammed the milk onto the dining table. “I’ll give you back the money, if you want…” “Do you think I can use the bloody twenty bucks to save me from grounding?” My voice was raised my octaves as I shoved the cereal into my mouth. “I was also grounded… One entire week, you know?” “I’m grounded for one entire freaking month, Katherine!” “Sorry…” She gave up arguing and flashed an apologetic look at me. I didn’t want to get mad at her but I really wanted to spend time with Emily. And probably, Ashley? I laughed at my foolishness.

Chapter 1 -
Misbehaving (part1)

“Hey, little sister you really look simply stunning.” Ugh. It was the hundredth time Blake saying. I rolled my eyes. “Come on.” He ignored me as he helped me into his white Volkswagen. “Bye Katherine!” Both of us waved at our sulking fourteen-year-old sister. Blake stepped a little too hard onto the accelerator, and the car jerked violently before racing forward. “You should have let me drive.” I muttered fiercely under my breath. Blake took his eyes off driving to stare at me again. His eyes were glittering brightly as he traced the white sundress I was wearing. “Keep your hands to yourself.” I shoved his hand back onto the steering wheel. Then, I turned my head to look outside the car. The sun was setting, letting the sky turned into a beautiful shade of salmon pink. I sighed. I didn’t want to get mad at my brother but I had been stuck at home for too long a time. My best friend, Emily went on a holiday to Paris, leaving me reading William Shakespeare all alone at home. I was in luck that Blake had persuaded me to follow him to the pub. But I wasn’t of legal age yet… “You think Katherine would keep her damn mouth shut?” Blake broke the silence, guessing my thoughts. “She’d better.” I didn’t want Sam and Hannah to find out so we paid Katherine twenty bucks to lie. What nice siblings were we, I thought. Then, the Volkswagen skidded to a stop when he pulled over.

Blake got out of his car, motioning me to stay still, walked around the hood and helped me out of the car gentlemanly. “Thanks.” I mumbled. “Layla, did I mention that you are gorgeous this evening?” He put on his best smiled as he shoved me forward. I groaned. Maybe I shouldn’t have spent so much time curling my light brown hair or brushing the mascara, or dabbing the eye shadow. I sighed as I followed him in. “Ta-da.” Blake pushed the sliding door open, trying to lighten the atmosphere. The walls of the pub were painted black, but it appeared to be so colorful under the dazzling lights. People were dancing on the glass square right smack in the middle, moving in beat with the rock music. At the far end of the pub, there was a long bar and a fully-stocked liquor glass closet behind. “It’s a nice place, isn’t it?” I muttered, trying to conceal my amazement. “Yeah,” He seemed distracted as his eyes scoured the place, just like finding a needle in a haystack. After several seconds, his face lit up, waved enthusiastically at the dark before dragging me along. “Hey, let’s go find my friends.” He said. We weaved through the crowd, zipping in and out of couples till we reached the VIP booth. The semi-circle black seats were velvet, behind the red wooden planks. It looked pretty classy to me. “Jan! David! Nicholas!” He leaned forward to embrace them. I recognized Jayden, one of the hottest guys in school. “Hey bud. You’ve got a pretty girlfriend there.” Jayden and his friends looked over his shoulder and stared at me. He thought I was Blake’s girlfriend? What the hell? He glanced at my white sundress, one with vintage lace along the hemming, and my beige stilettos. “My sister.” Blake corrected, pushing me forward. “Nice to meet you, I’m Jayden.” He leaned forward to brush my cheeks with his. He truly didn’t know me. “Hi, I’m Layla.” I flashed one of my brilliant smiles at him. He seemed to be smitten. Maybe the two hours of dolling up did help, I thought.

Blake and I got settled down with his friends. Jayden sat to me, trying to get as close as possible. I ignored him entirely. Then, Nicholas introduced me to the girls. Audrey was the blonde who kept brushing her breasts onto David’s chest, but apart from that disgusting flirt, she was pretty. Her eyes were some deep shade of turquoise, her cheeks blushed with radiance and her lips were red, hot, sexy. The other girl was Ashley. She flirted a little with the guys in the next booth but came back for more Tequila. She was one hot babe; her dark brown hair formed a curtain along her back, her eye lashes fluttered above those brilliant blue eyes and her lips, small and dainty. The red tube top she was wearing flaunted her shapely figure, especially her slender waist and her fantastic legs. So toned and slim. I liked her shoes too - four-inch high red wedges. I spent most of my time sipping some Absolute Vodka while stealing glances at the two girls – I was full of envy for Ashley.

“Layla! You want to dance?” Jayden asked as he inched closer to me. Did I have a choice? “Why not?” I tried to sound enthusiastic, and it worked. He led me to the glass square by my wrist, tugging it gently. He moved around me, his chest occasionally brushed against mine. I just stood there, slightly swaying as I moved my arms to the rhythm of the music. One minute into the song, I got bored and I rested my hand onto Jayden’s shoulder. He flinched a little before he traced his fingertips up and down my body, from my neck down to my thighs. I didn’t care. I just wanted to have fun. And I would have something to show off to Emily next week. Bouncing my curls, I leaned close enough for my fluttering long eye lashes to brush against his cheeks. I’d never been so daring to do that. Must have been the Vodka, I thought. Then, he held me even closer by my waist and crushed my lips. His tongue reached out for mine. He tasted slightly salty and sweet. I’d liked it. “Jayden! I’m tired already. Let’s get back.” I gave up after a few songs. My calved ached, how stupid was it of me to wear stilettos. “Hmm….” He leaned forward to smell my Dolce and Gabbana and led me back to the booth. “Hi! Layla, right?” Ashley smiled warmly at me. She was hot; her voice was so sexy and alluring. “Hey Ashley!” I beamed at her and she reached out for an embrace. While she held me close to her and the other hand ruffling my hair, I just wrapped one arm around her back. “I like your perfume.” I pulled away and inhaled the sweet scent. “Thanks!” She leaned closer to David and snuggled next to him. I thought I saw Audrey stick out her tongue. “Anyway, how old are you? You look too young.” She asked. I sighed. My small figure and cute face always gave away the secret. “Seventeen.” I admitted. “Cool. Let’s do something fun. It’s so bored sticking around here.” She tugged my elbow and pulled me away without waiting for my consent. Bored? I thought she was laughing like crazy around those hunks in the next booth. How ironic.
